Longrow Red Ltd Ed 13 Year Old Chilean Cabernet Cask Matured 51.6%

51.6% | 70cl | Longrow | Campbeltown | Cask Strength | Peated | Limited Edition | NCF

This Limited Edition Longrow Red series combines Springbank’s peated single malt with maturation in a different type of red wine cask each year. This 2020 release spent 13 years maturing in Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon casks, resulting in a flavour-packed whisky, where big smoky elements combine with the sweet notes from the red wine.

Limited to 1 per customer.

Nose: Toasted oak and jammy fruit, followed by red wine notes.

Taste: Dark cherries and blackcurrant jam. Smoke and sweetness mingle together, giving it a savoury edge.

Finish: Long and lingering, with dark chocolate, rootsy herbs and a hint of tobacco.

Springbank distillery is located in Campbeltown, a picturesque Scottish town situated at the southern end of the Kintyre Peninsula.

The first reference to Campbeltown whisky is recorded in writing in 1591. Springbank was established in 1828 on the site of Archibald Mitchell’s illicit still, becoming the 14th licensed distillery in Campbeltown. Today, Springbank is one of only three distilleries operating in the Campbeltown area and is the oldest independent family-owned distillery in Scotland. Although it planning permission has already been granted to 1-2 more distilleries.

Named after another lost distillery of Campbeltown (which once operated right next door to Springbank and whose warehouse now houses the bottling hall), Longrow was first produced in 1973 to provide a peaty, oily and robust component to a blend being created at the time. More heavily peated and double distilled, it has been a staple in the production calendar since the 1990s.
